The Postal Museum at 15-20 Phoenix Place, London WC1X 0DA, is one of the most unusual days out in central London: you can ride a little train through the tunnels of the old Post Office railway. If you're looking for somewhere to eat before or after, Nonòs Judd Street, our Greek Mediterranean kitchen and bar at 112 Judd Street, London WC1H 9NT, is about a kilometre away, roughly a 14-minute walk.
About the museum and Mail Rail
The Postal Museum opened on Phoenix Place in July 2017, near the Mount Pleasant sorting office. It's run by the Postal Heritage Trust, an independent charity. The big draw is Mail Rail: from 1927 to 2003, the Post Office ran a driverless, narrow-gauge underground railway beneath London to carry mail between sorting offices. In September 2017 a section of about a kilometre at Mount Pleasant reopened for passengers as part of the museum. Background from Wikipedia's pages on the Postal Museum and Post Office Railway.
The museum lists its hours as Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 17:00, with the last Mail Rail ride at 16:00. It's closed on Sunday 18 October 2026 for a relaxed event. The museum and Mail Rail are in two buildings on opposite sides of Phoenix Place, and it recommends allowing two to three hours, booking ahead at weekends. Check the Postal Museum visit page before you go.
The walk
From Phoenix Place, head west to Gray's Inn Road, cross over and carry on west through the back streets to Judd Street. Nonòs is at number 112, between Bloomsbury and King's Cross St Pancras. The museum lists King's Cross St Pancras and Russell Square among its nearest stations, and we're close to both.
Before your visit
Judd Street opens at 08:30 every day, with breakfast until 12:00: the Nonòs Full English, hash Benedict, shakshuka or Greek yoghurt with nuts, honey and baby fruits. There's coffee from espresso to a Freddo Cappuccino, plus fresh orange juice and smoothies. Our post on breakfast at Nonòs has more.
After your visit
From noon, the à la carte menu runs until close: 22:00 Sunday to Wednesday and 23:00 Thursday to Saturday. Share some mezze, such as hummus, tzatziki, dolmades or filo triangles with spinach and feta, then move on to chicken skewers, lamb chops, beef moussaka or sea bass marinated in Greek herbs.

Bringing the family
The Postal Museum is a popular family day out, with a separate-ticket play space called Sorted! for younger children. Families are welcome at Nonòs too. Judd Street has two floors: a ground-floor dining room and bar that opens onto pavement tables, and a downstairs dining room. Siobhan found the atmosphere perfect for a family dinner or date night
