Greek restaurant near the Foundling Museum: Nonòs Judd Street

The Foundling Museum at 40 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AZ, is one of Bloomsbury's most fascinating small museums. It doesn't have a café of its own, so it's worth knowing where to eat before or after your visit. Nonòs Judd Street, our Greek Mediterranean kitchen and bar at 112 Judd Street, London WC1H 9NT, is about 500 metres away, roughly a 7-minute walk.

About the museum

The museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, Britain's first home for children at risk of abandonment. It was founded by the philanthropist Thomas Coram in 1739, and the artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel are central to its story. Today the hospital's work continues as the children's charity Coram, and the museum houses the Foundling Hospital Collection and the Gerald Coke Handel Collection.

The museum lists its regular hours as Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm, closed on Mondays, with some changed hours on particular dates. Tickets include the collection and the current exhibition, and visitors aged 21 and under go free. Always check the Foundling Museum visit page before you go.

The walk

From Brunswick Square, head north up Hunter Street, which runs straight into Judd Street. Keep going and you'll find Nonòs at number 112, on the way towards King's Cross St Pancras.

Our second restaurant, Nonòs Russell Square at 59 Marchmont Street, WC1N 1AP, is a similar walk from the museum, about 450 metres. Its opening hours are still being finalised, so call 020 7837 5054 or check the Russell Square page before you go.

Before your visit

Judd Street opens at 08:30 every day, with breakfast until 12:00: the Nonòs Full English, hash Benedict, shakshuka, or Greek yoghurt with nuts, honey and baby fruits. There's coffee from espresso to a Freddo Cappuccino, fresh orange juice and smoothies. See the breakfast menu.

After your visit

From noon, the à la carte menu runs until close: 22:00 Sunday to Wednesday and 23:00 Thursday to Saturday. Share some mezze, such as dolmades, tzatziki, filo triangles with spinach and feta, or the Nonòs' Meze for two, then move on to a chicken skewer, beef moussaka or sea bass marinated in Greek herbs.

Tom arrived at peak lunchtime and wrote that a member of staff did their very best to get us a table (Tom E., Google review). He added: The atmosphere was nice and chilled too. (Tom E., Google review)

Bringing the family

The museum is free for visitors aged 21 and under, which makes it an easy family day out, and families are welcome at Nonòs too. Judd Street has two floors, with a ground-floor dining room, pavement tables and a downstairs dining room. Emeka found the atmosphere perfect for a relaxed family dinner (Emeka D., Google review). Our post on family-friendly dining at Nonòs has more.

“Service from a young friendly team was excellent. Seating comfortable. Can't go wrong.”
