Greek Restaurant Near King's Cross Station: A Five-Minute Walk From the Platforms

The dining room at Nonos Greek restaurant on Judd Street, King's Cross

If you have ever stood in the concourse at King's Cross St Pancras at seven in the evening wondering where to eat, you will know the problem. There is a lot of food within fifty metres of the platforms and almost none of it is a restaurant. It is a food court with better lighting.

Walk south for five minutes and the neighbourhood changes completely. Judd Street is residential, Georgian, quiet by London standards, and Nonos has been on it long enough that a decent share of our tables are people who live within a few streets.

How far is it, exactly

112 Judd Street, London WC1H 9NT.

From King's Cross St Pancras, leave by the Euston Road exit, head south down Judd Street, and keep going. Five to eight minutes depending on your pace and whether you are dragging a suitcase. From Euston it is about ten minutes east. From Russell Square, about seven minutes north.

There is pay and display parking directly outside, Monday to Friday 08:30 to 18:30 and Saturday 08:30 to 13:30. Outside those hours it is free, which includes all day Sunday and every evening.

What kind of Greek restaurant this is

Not a taverna pastiche with plate-smashing and a bouzouki playlist. Also not a modernist reinterpretation where the moussaka arrives as a foam.

It is a family-run restaurant cooking Greek and wider Mediterranean food properly, on a menu that runs from 8:30 in the morning to close. Olive oil, grains, fish, meat and vegetables, which is what Greek cooking actually is once you strip away the marketing.

The things people order most, and mention most in reviews:

  • Moussaka, including a vegetarian version that is not an afterthought
  • The mixed grill, which is designed to be shared and defeats most pairs
  • Souvlaki, chicken, pork or vegetarian
  • Grilled sea bass, whole
  • Tzatziki, which comes up in reviews with a frequency we find slightly funny
  • Grilled aubergine and beetroot salad, if you want to start light

The full à la carte menu is here, along with our wine list and breakfast menu.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, all in the same room

We open at 8:30 every morning. That is unusual for a Greek restaurant in London and it is the reason a lot of people find us: they come for coffee and eggs before a train, and come back for dinner three months later.

  • Sunday to Wednesday: 08:30 to 22:00
  • Thursday to Saturday: 08:30 to 23:00

The kitchen switches over from breakfast to the main menu around midday. If you arrive in the changeover window, ask, because both are usually available for a while.

Upstairs or downstairs

There are two floors. The ground floor is brighter and closer to the street. The lower floor is the one we use for larger tables and it gets livelier, which some people want and some people very much do not.

If you need a quiet conversation, say so when you book and we will put you upstairs. If you are twelve people celebrating something, downstairs is where you want to be. This is worth mentioning because it is the single most common thing people wish they had known.

Groups, private hire and events

The room takes 80 standing and 60 seated. With the kitchen and bar both fully equipped, we run sit-down dinners, buffets, canapé and drinks receptions, and full exclusive hire.

That covers most of what people ask for: office Christmas parties, birthdays, graduation dinners for families coming into London for UCL or SOAS, engagement dinners, wakes. See private dining & events or get in touch with a date and a headcount and we will come back with options rather than a form.

Dietary requirements

Greek food is accidentally good at this. A great deal of the traditional repertoire is vegetable-led, because Greek Orthodox fasting traditions produced centuries of cooking without meat or dairy.

  • Vegetarian: vegetarian moussaka, vegetarian souvlaki, chargrilled vegetables with salad, couscous and hummus
  • Vegan: more than you would expect, and we will tell you honestly which dishes work and which do not
  • Gluten-free: available across most of the grills and salads
  • Halal: ask, and we will tell you what applies on the day

Tell us about allergies when you sit down rather than when you order.

Accessibility

Step-free access on the ground floor and an accessible bathroom, which is rarer in central London restaurants than it should be. The lower floor is reached by stairs only. If access matters, mention it at the point of booking so we hold a ground-floor table.

Delivery, if you would rather not move

We are on Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat. Grills and mezze travel well. Anything that arrives on fire does not.

Booking

Weekday lunch and early evenings are usually fine on a walk-in. Between 6pm and 9pm, and all day at weekends, book. Reserve a table here, or call 0207 278 9700.
