What is a Pornstar Martini? The passion fruit cocktail at Nonòs Judd Street

It's one of the most-ordered cocktails in Britain, and it was born right here in London. The Pornstar Martini is also one of the favourites at Nonòs Judd Street, our Greek Mediterranean kitchen and bar at 112 Judd Street, London WC1H 9NT, five minutes' walk from King's Cross St Pancras. Here's what's in it and where it came from.

Passion fruit and vanilla

The Pornstar Martini is a passion fruit cocktail made with vanilla vodka, Passoã (a passion fruit liqueur), passion fruit purée and vanilla. Traditionally it's served with a small chilled glass of champagne on the side. Despite the name, it isn't a true martini; it's one of many modern drinks that borrow the word.

A London original

The drink was created in 2002 by the bartender Douglas Ankrah, who also owned LAB Bar in Soho, at his London bar Townhouse. It caught on fast: by November 2018 it was reported to be the most ordered cocktail in the United Kingdom. Wikipedia's Pornstar Martini page has more of the story.

Our Pornstar Martini

On our drinks and bar menu, the Pornstar Martini is vanilla vodka, Passoã liqueur, vanilla syrup, freshly squeezed lime juice, passion fruit purée and sparkling wine. It has fans. Emma wrote that The pornstar martini was one of the best. (Emma H., Google review), and gave a shout-out to our server and master cocktail maker, Bek (Emma H., Google review).

Not drinking?

Our Virgin Pornstar Martini keeps the passion fruit and vanilla: lime juice, passion fruit purée, passion fruit juice and vanilla syrup. It sits on the list of Nonòs signature mocktails with the Lady in Red and the Virgin Mojito. See our post on alcohol-free drinks at Nonòs.

Food to go with it

A fruity cocktail goes well with salty mezze. Try the Baked Feta Cheese Pastry with honey and toasted sesame, Halloumi Fries, or a shared Nonòs' Meze for two with hummus, tzatziki, tyrokafteri, Greek salad, olives and pitta. Celebrating? Our post on birthdays and date nights has ideas.
