Kings Place, at 90 York Way, London N1 9AG, is King's Cross's home for live music and art, right beside the Regent's Canal. If you have tickets for a concert there, Nonòs Judd Street, our Greek Mediterranean kitchen and bar at 112 Judd Street, London WC1H 9NT, is just under a kilometre away, about a 13-minute walk. Here's a little about the venue, the walk, and how to time dinner.

Music, art and a newspaper

Kings Place opened in 2008, with an opening festival that began on 1 October that year. It combines music and visual arts venues with seven floors of offices, and it has been home to the editorial offices of The Guardian since December 2008. Its main concert hall was the first public concert hall to be newly built in central London since the Barbican's in 1982.

Hall One, the largest, seats 420 people, and Hall Two is a flexible space for about 200 seated or 330 standing. Aurora Orchestra is the resident orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the London Sinfonietta are regular artistic associates. The building, designed by Dixon Jones, has a wavy three-layered glass façade on York Way, and on its eastern side it looks over Battlebridge Basin on the Regent's Canal. Galleries, too

Even without a ticket, Kings Place is worth a look, with free access to its galleries. Pangolin London, one of the few London galleries dedicated to modern and contemporary sculpture, has its main gallery by the entrance, open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, and shows sculpture throughout the building and along the canal side. There's also the Kings Place Gallery on level −1. Details are on the Kings Place art galleries page.

What's on

The programme mixes classical, folk, jazz, contemporary music and spoken word across its two stages. This autumn, the London Piano Festival returns for its 11th edition, including a Mozart Piano Gala on Saturday 31 October and a closing concert on Sunday 1 November, and the Future Folk series returns. A limited number of £10 Under 30s tickets are available for selected events. The box office is open Monday to Friday, 12:30 to 17:00, and for two hours before the first performance of the day, and doors usually open 30 minutes before the start. See kingsplace.co.uk for the full listings and ticketing information.

The walk

From Kings Place, walk south down York Way, past King's Cross station, to Euston Road. Turn right along Euston Road, cross over, and turn left into Judd Street. Number 112 is on your way down, with our pavement tables among the olive trees. It's about 980 metres, roughly 13 minutes on foot (route from OpenStreetMap). The Kings Place getting here page has transport details.

Timing dinner before the show

Our à la carte menu starts at noon and runs through the evening. During busy periods tables are reserved for a maximum of two hours, so for a 19:30 concert we'd suggest booking for around 17:00, leaving time for dinner and the walk before doors open. For something quick, share the Nonòs' Meze for two: hummus, tzatziki, tyrokafteri, Greek salad, olives and pitta. Then go for a Chicken Skewer, Lamb Chops with lemon, oil and oregano, or Beef Moussaka. Our post on pre-theatre dinner has more tips.

Linda ate with us before heading to Scotland: We had an amazing meal at Nonos before heading off on our Scottish hiking adventure. (Linda D., Google review) And Pelin liked that we're quite central and easy to walk from the station (Pelin K., Google review).

After the encore

Judd Street is open until 22:00 Sunday to Wednesday and until 23:00 Thursday to Saturday, so there's often time for a nightcap after an early concert. The bar pours Greek wines, cocktails and Mythos; see our posts on cocktails and aperitivo hour and Greek wine. Coming as a big group? Our downstairs dining room takes parties of up to 50; see private dining and events. More nearby ideas are in our posts on eating near St Pancras before the Eurostar and the British Library.
