A Greek meal is not finished when the grill plates leave the table. At Nonòs on Judd Street we keep a short, focused dessert list: baklava, warm chocolate brownie, cheesecake, Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts, and ice cream. Here is how we like to end lunch or dinner at our Greek restaurant five minutes from King's Cross.
Baklava, the classic finish
Baklava is layers of filo pastry with nuts and syrup or honey, served so the pastry still has snap. It is the dessert guests order when they want something unmistakably Greek after mezze and grill. Share it between two with coffee, or keep it to yourself after a Mixed Grill Feast you somehow finished. It sits naturally after lamb chops, souvlaki or a long meze table, when you want sweetness without a heavy cream dessert.
Acker, quoted from Tripadvisor, called Nonòs a complete package. Food, wine, ambience, service, value for money.
(Acker, Tripadvisor review). Dessert is part of that package when you have the room. Tina's line about the grill, flavourful and fresh and the portions are generous
(Tina, Google review), is why we always mention saving space before you order a third mezze.
Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts
For a lighter close, our Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts is the plate we recommend after a big grill. Thick strained yoghurt, a drizzle of honey and a crunch of nuts: simple, cold and cleansing. It also works as a mid-afternoon treat if you have only come in for coffee after the British Library or a museum walk. Jul's brunch note on our shakshuka, warm, comforting, and had that homemade, hearty feel
(Jul, Google review), is the same spirit we want in the sweet course: proper, not fussy.
If you are eating breakfast with us between 8:30 and noon, yoghurt already appears on the morning menu; in the evening the honey-and-nuts version is the dessert reading of the same idea.
Brownie, cheesecake and ice cream
Not every table wants filo. Our warm chocolate brownie and cheesecake cover the familiar European finishes, and ice cream is there for anyone who wants something cold with coffee. If you are celebrating, order two desserts for the middle of the table and pass the spoons. Victor's birthday visit praised Excellent service, terrace atmosphere and Greek food
(Victor M. J., Google review); dessert is when that atmosphere lingers. Siobhan's note that we are perfect for a family dinner or date night
(Siobhan B., Google review) is another reason to linger over something sweet rather than racing for the bill.
What to drink with pudding
A dessert course loves a small sweet drink or a proper coffee. From the bar and coffee list you might choose:
- Espresso, freddo espresso or freddo cappuccino
- A Nescafé frappé if you want the classic Greek iced style
- A glass of dessert-friendly wine; ask us what is open
- A short cocktail if the night is still going, such as an Espresso Martini
- Mythos or a herbal tea if you want to keep things gentle
Katie praised Very friendly service, generous pours of wine
(Katie H., Google review), and Tom L. made an afternoon of Delicious greek wine and a couple of cocktails plus fantastic service.
(Tom L., Google review). Emma rated the pornstar martini one of the best
(Emma H., Google review) if you would rather end on a cocktail than a pastry. There is no rush to leave when pudding arrives.
Allergies and sharing
Nuts appear in baklava and in the yoghurt topping, and gluten is present in filo and many cakes. If you need gluten-free or nut-free options, speak to your server before ordering. Tess noted that the GF items are very clearly marked! The staff is very aware of allergies
(Tess R., Google review). We would rather guide you to ice cream or another safe choice than guess. Debbie on Tripadvisor also flagged excellent gluten free options
more broadly (debbiew287, Tripadvisor review), but desserts still need a conversation dish by dish.
Save room, then book
